Return the Favor

Return the Favor is an awareness and fundraising campaign sponsored by the VFW Foundation to honor, celebrate and support active-duty and retired military and their families. The VFW Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and official charity of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), America’s oldest and largest service group for combat veterans.

Return the Favor programs and services fill in governmental assistance gaps for troops abroad, deserving military families back in the U.S. or America’s often forgotten veterans. Programs support all branches of the military, are provided at no cost to the recipients and require no VFW affiliation. Through Return the Favor programs and services, the VFW Foundation seeks to make military personnel and their families feel appreciated for their service to our country.

Sgt. First Class Leroy Petry to receive Medal of Honor tomorrow.

An Army Ranger from New Mexico who lost his hand throwing a grenade away from two fellow soldiers in Afghanistan will become one of only two living service members awarded the elite Medal of Honor in the current round of conflicts, Army officials said Thursday.

Sgt. 1st Class Leroy Petry, who will receive the nation’s highest award for valor from President Obama on July 12, continued to bark orders at his junior enlistees even as he was being bandaged at the scene of a 45-minute fight with insurgents, members of his unit told reporters.
